Care Tips

Look after your linen and it'll look after you. With the right care, your Un Cover Me linen will stay soft, fresh, and comfortable wash after wash. Here's everything you need to know.

Quick Care Guide

For most of our sheets, quilt covers, and pillowcases:

  • Machine wash cold to warm, up to 40°C

  • Wash on a gentle or normal cycle with similar colours

  • Use a mild detergent

  • Skip the fabric softener

  • Tumble dry on low and remove promptly

  • Iron on low to medium only if needed

Always check the care label on your individual product, as care can vary by fabric.

Washing

  • Wash new items before first use for maximum freshness and softness.

  • Wash with like colours to protect against any colour transfer.

  • Use a mild detergent and avoid bleach, which weakens fibres and fades colour over time.

  • Don't overload the machine. Linen needs room to move to get properly clean and rinse well.

  • Avoid fabric softener. It coats fibres over time and reduces softness, breathability, and absorbency, especially on microfibre and towels.

Drying

  • Tumble dry on low and remove promptly to minimise wrinkles.

  • Line drying in the shade is gentle and energy-saving. Avoid long spells in direct sun, which can fade colours.

  • Don't over-dry. High heat is one of the main causes of worn, dull fibres.

Ironing

  • Iron on a low to medium setting only if needed.

  • Most microfibre and easy-care blends need little to no ironing if removed from the dryer promptly.

  • For that crisp, hotel-style finish, iron cotton and cotton-blend sheets while slightly damp.

Keeping Linen Soft

  • Wash before first use, then avoid fabric softener and high heat, the two biggest causes of dulling.

  • Pro tip: Add half a cup of white vinegar to the wash occasionally in place of softener. It naturally freshens fibres, removes detergent build-up, and keeps everything soft, without any lingering smell.

  • Rotate between sets if you can. Giving linen a rest between uses helps it last longer.

Fabric-Specific Tips

Microfibre
Naturally soft and low-maintenance. Wash cool, skip the softener, and it stays smooth with minimal ironing.

Cotton & Cotton Blends
Get softer with every wash. For a crisp hotel finish, iron while slightly damp. Avoid high heat to keep fibres strong.

Towels
Wash before first use to boost absorbency, and always skip the softener, which reduces how well they absorb. Tumble dry on low to keep them fluffy. A vinegar wash now and then revives tired towels.

Duck Feather & Down (Pillows & Quilts)
Air and plump regularly to maintain loft and freshness. Use a protector or cover to keep them clean between washes, and follow the care label, as feather and down often need specialist cleaning.

Polyester Fill (Pillows & Quilts)
Generally easy-care and machine washable, but always check the label. Dry thoroughly to avoid clumping, and give them a good plump to restore shape.

Caring for Your Linen, Season to Season

  • Store clean and dry. Never store linen damp, as it can develop musty odours or mildew.

  • Keep stored linen in a cool, dry, well-ventilated spot, ideally in a breathable cotton bag rather than sealed plastic.

  • Pop a lavender sachet or cedar block in your linen cupboard to keep everything smelling fresh.
